One of my favorite sushi spots in Los Angeles, is Matsuhisa.
In the 10 + years I had been dining there, I have yet to have a bad meal.
Yellow tail jalapeno, Kobe beef tacos, new style salmon sashimi….yum, I’m getting hungry !
Being a regular. I hold the title of “Best Dressed Customer”, from the lovely redhead Hostess with the Mostess, Michelle.
The staff and sushi chefs shout my name upon arrival.
Hey, maybe If I bribe them with Sapporos ( Japanese beer ) they’ll shout “Minx In The City”.
I’ll have a word with Yoshi, wink.
Who have I spotted there ? Demi Moore, Camron Diaz, Fred Durst, Mel B aka Scary Spice + hubby, Jane Fonda, Alana Stewart, Nicolas Cage, Nancy Sinatra, Tori Spelling, Jason Stratham, Penelope Cruz. I am sure “name dropper” Minx forgot a few.
When the main man Nobu Matsuhisa is “in the house”, there is quite a buzz.
Everyone is secretly hoping he acknowledges them. I was one of those, now I get a hug, and sometimes a kiss on the cheek. The whole room looks and whispers. Yep, I am officially in the Nobu Inner Circle. Jealous ?
Who is this Japanese Super Chef ?
Nobu Matsuhisa is at the very top, of the Fusion Japanese Cuisine totem pole.
How did he earn his spot there ? Good old fashioned hard work, determination, believing in, and following his passion.
Never giving up, when so many obstacle’s were put in his way.
I asked Nobu last time I got a coveted hug, “how many restaurants he currently had ?”.
Nobu had to think, then added 2 upcoming locations, Cape Town, South Africa, and Moscow Russia. Bringing the current total, at time of this going to press, of 22 ! Gasp.
Does he sit around sipping premium sake, counting his money, and whipping his nose with it ?- hell no ! Nobu travels the world visiting each restaurant, and getting down and dirty in the kitchen.
Whilst strategizing is next move in World High-End Japanese Cuisine Domination.
Married with 2 adult daughters to Yoko. Who cooks for Nobu ? wife Yoko. Yes, the same Yoko Matsuhisa who brought food to Travis Barker. Yoko visited him in hospital after his plane crash. Bringing his Nobu favorite dishes. He is also a Yellowtail halpeno fan
Nobu Matsuhisa inspires me to work harder, and follow my passions and heart.
Really, what Minx In The City is all about – making an effort, showing up, and just trying your best.
If you find yourself at any of his restaurant’s, check to see if I’m at the sushi bar, say “hi”
ARIGATO GOZAIMASU – Thank you very much in Japanese.
